A Big Date, and A Big Idea
We’ve got a big date this weekend, with a big fat book that we’re getting ready to unleash on the world, just for young professionals!
But, we’ll leave you instead with an idea (since your brains are already on the SuperBowl anyway…) that is this: is the term ’social entrepreneur’ an oxymoron? (As posed today by Tina Seelig on Twitter.) I don’t think so. There are companies out there that are traditionally entrepreneurial, but they focus only on maximizing profits. Very a la Gordon Gekko.
On the other hand, social entrepreneurs to me are those who have 2 goals in mind - making money AND doing the world better. Sometimes in the traditional capitalistic market those two ideas clash. Hence, we think it’s ok to use this term, as it is slightly different than the traditional ‘entrepreneur’.
Greed, my friends, isn’t always good.
This is our last post before our big date this weekend. Go Colts!
